Through the collaboration with Conscensia, outsourcing has become an important part of Systematic’s strategy. In particular, Conscensia’s ability to nurture a collaboration has ensured that outsourcing has become a clear benefit, says Rikke Rønnau, Vice President at Systematic. Since Systematic tested Conscensia as an outsourcing partner with a pilot project of four to five people in 2010, the collaboration has developed rapidly. Today, Systematic has 25 employees at Conscensia’s office in Ukraine and 10 in Poland. “This shows that we are very consciously bringing outsourcing into play when we need to expand our activities. It ensures a reasonable cost level and helps us handle peak loads in a way that makes us less vulnerable than if we had to hire ourselves. At the same time, we are increasingly in a situation where the hunt for IT talent is becoming more difficult, and here Conscencia is a good opportunity to find qualified colleagues outside Denmark,” says Rikke Rønnau.

Collaboration is nurtured

Systematic has developed a close collaboration with Conscensia, and according to Rikke Rønnau, one of Conscensia’s strengths is the ability to nurture the collaboration and deal with challenges before they become problems. In addition to the ongoing contact that keeps daily operations running smoothly, Systematic meets with Conscensia’s management about once a quarter to look at the big picture and develop the collaboration. “The fact that we have such close contact with Conscensia’s Delivery Managers in both Poland and Ukraine and CEO Torsten Bielefeldt Schlägelberger is of great value because they understand the Danish, Ukrainian and Polish cultures. This is not only valuable in the overall collaboration at management level, but also on a day-to-day basis if, for example, there is a developer who may not be performing well for a period of time, or of a more positive nature if, for example, we want to know how we can best appreciate a developer who has made an extra good effort,” says Rikke Rønnau.

Talented people

Systematic works according to the scrum principles and CMMI level 5, and it has therefore been important to find developers in Ukraine who can both function in this way of working and have the right linguistic and professional qualifications. Rikke Rønnau highlights the HR department as one of Conscensia’s great strengths.

“We have a lot of sharp people at Systematic, so outsourcing only works for us because Conscensia is able to recruit some really good developers.”

Further gain awaits

Systematic uses the outsourced employees both in connection with the start-up of new projects and on projects that have been running for several years. “On the new projects, we can see that the employees in Ukraine are actually just as efficient as our Danish employees. On existing projects, it takes a little longer to achieve the same efficiency, but it would also require a break-in period if we were to put a Danish employee into something that has been running for a long time,” says Rikke Rønnau, who has no doubt that the collaboration with Conscensia creates value for Systematic. “The hourly rate is of course attractive in itself, but it’s also an important supplement in terms of recruitment, giving us access to a pool of employees with good technical skills. Our expectations have been met and we believe that we can increase our volume in the future and gain further benefits,” says Rikke Rønnau and continues: “We have found a good partner in Conscensia that we will continue to work with. This is very interesting for us because it future-proofs the collaboration and gives us more opportunities. We have now worked with Conscensia for more than 10 years to the great satisfaction of both parties.”
